REVERBS

by Kirby Michael Wright

Marines at Camp Pendleton perform twilight runs that rattle our avenue. Boom-ahboom-

boom. Sounds like carpet bombing. My teeth chatter. Sergeant across the

street got his window shattered.

The air smells metallic. This is practice murder for Iran, Cuba, and parts unknown.

Who will die? Parents and children. Marines will teach lessons to refugees starving

in tents.

Souls of victims rise and howl at the stars.

BIO: Kirby Michael Wright was born and raised in Hawaii. His family land on Moloka'i served as the breadbasket for Kamehameha's warriors while training for their assault on Oahu.
