Four Poems
by Eric Robert Nolan
Quiet White Dog Short Poem
A tottering nocturnal poppy,
its tail is a plume that moves between tombstones —
as white as them,
as white as the moon,
and as noiseless as either,
the night’s silent, snowy, swaying bloom —
quiet white dog in a mountain graveyard.

My Mother's Apartment
I've been trying to keep my mother's apartment
as clean and as orderly as possible.
Everything is exactly where it should be,
except for her.

March Midnight Window
Cold glass.
One white palm against
a March midnight window.
The hour is struck.
In blackness, an indistinct
day is made another.
Clouds seclude the moon. To
any rare nocturnal souls at other windows,
the lithe, pale "L" of my hand might be
an alabaster letter,
a sign to other sleepless.
Each, in eisegesis,
divines its meaning in
their own midnight hearts --
whether love or loss I do not know.

Sullen Robin Haiku
Presented with bread,
one plumping, sullen robin,
indicates disdain.
