Etch-a-Sketch, a metaphor for a better life

by Andy Betz

I own an original Etch-a-Sketch

I’ve had it for years

Just sitting on a shelf collecting dust

Just waiting for me to grow up

And recognize its true value

An Etch-a-Sketch erases life’s mistakes

From the mundane

To the truly horrific

All it takes is a mere shake

And sealed lips for all eternity

Did your spouse discover your cheating ways?

Grab your Etch-a-Sketch

And erase that part of your browsing history

No one will know

And that Dorian Gray portrait will continue to age

Forgot to pay your taxes?

Lied on the campaign trail?

Found a creative use for an Oval Office cigar?

Pinpoint the Etch-a-Sketch

To relieve the embarrassment and relive the day

Etch-a-Sketch has worked for years

For Politicians

Government employees

Karens and Kens

And it could work for you

All you need is to BELIEVE in its power

Never confusing reality with facts

Etch-a-Sketch is more than suggestion

Etch-a-Sketch is the ultimate in make believe

You just need to want it to be true

With Etch-a-Sketch

You can have an infinite amount of Do-Overs

You can keep trying until others think as you do

With Etch-a-Sketch

You can also erase those bad people from your life and world

So, this Christmas

Treat yourself to the gift that keeps on giving

Make yours the only view anyone can see

Make yours the only truth anyone will know

And eliminate all that stand in your way
