Six Poems

by Sarah Freia

The Exchange

, and as my feet soak into the splotchy carpet,

creeping past bottles and broken promises that guard the door,

I cloak myself in scavenged bits of discarded cotton

sloppily strewn around the one bedroom downtown carcass,

choice bits of the carnal carnage still dripping from the bone.

I succumb to the vampiric compulsion to exchange life-sustaining fluid then flee to the

masquerade of my daily grind of blouses and briefcases;

Embraced by Selene, whose lustful lips kiss off all the blood I caused

to swell around my mouths, before the merciless Helios can unmask

the face of the bloody thief I have become, who has ravaged yet another hopeless heart,

United Devastation

Free, to live within

United Devastation

among individuals

idolizing assimilation.

Expand all borders!

Constrict all minds!

The view is so rosy

between wider blinds,

land of the rich

possessed by the poor

still thankful it’s far

from a tempestuous shore

Remember - you’re free!

Free to pay rent,

within the gilded dream

that it’s money well spent.

Translucent Lust

You are an

apparition of adoration,

and I am

possessed by passion.

Translucent lust lingers

throughout my chamber,

where heightened spirits came

together in corporeal carnality.

A distant banshee sings me

her sweet, sweet serenade.

Coalesced Commiseration

In solitude,

I cast nets into profilic pages:

, a fleeting form -

, a wanton wisp -

, a spectral soul -

mates match my solace with swipes

left to chance in the hopes

of igniting interest in beating hearths

coalesced in commiseration of extinguished embers

of solitude.

Gluttonous

We

chomp, clamp, and chew the fat

from each succulent scandal,

gluttons for guilt-free gossip

simply seasoned with scrutiny.

We

spit, steam, and stir the pot

peppering pipping-hot hearsay

over muted fare, forever

craving more, more, more!

We feast,

our idols find work for idle lips to do.

Obsessed Ouroboros

EXPLOSION

of neon necessities

broadcasted and lazered

into the glossy retinal screens

of the collective consciousness;

a fluctuating state

of mindless materialism

and industrialized interests

globally engorged upon by the

Gluttons of Growth,

desperate to devour

any delays on arrivals at

the right place,

the right time;

an obsessed ouroboros

with sights set

so far ahead

it cannibalizes it’s tail

into incessant and ignorant

IMPLOSION
