Alcoholic Splurge and the White Light Dream

Poetry by Mattie-Bretton Hughes

The rain, it flows in my veins,

I feel electric, drop my shell.

Throw my bottle at the fence,

soaking my face in a backsplash.

Reeks of alcoholic splurge,

I binge like a dream that won't end.

I dream in heat waves of white.

White powder light, up my blood stream

I’ve waited for, a dream, I’ve waited for…

Moments turn to split seconds,

day into night, night into nothing.

Black clouds cloud

the white innocence of life.
