Digital Art by H. Lee Messina

Artist’s Statement:

I turn scraps into stories.

I cut, repurpose, and reassemble fragments — bread tags, envelopes, magazine clippings — into surreal collages. Each piece begins with the overlooked and forgotten, materials saved from the edges of daily life and transformed through a process that is both meditative and unpredictable. The act of cutting and reconfiguring allows meaning to surface in ways I can’t plan. My role shifts between maker and spectator, letting each work surprise me and spark the next. Currently, I am exploring how collage can blur the line between memory and material, pushing my practice into new forms and contexts.

Torn

But Where Am I?
